Adhyayan Suman said about Hiramandi: I am lucky to have been selected, but I am still surprised about it

Adhyayan Suman is playing the younger role of Nawab Zorawar and Nawab Zulfikar along with veteran actors in the much talked about web series ‘Hiramandi’ directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. In this, most of his scenes are with Richa Chadha and Manisha Koirala. This series will stream on OTT platform on May 1. Adhyayan Suman told in a special conversation with Dainik Bhaskar – What are you doing in Hiramandi? I am playing the character of Nawab Zorawar. My father Shekhar Suman is playing the character of Nawab Zulfikar. I am also playing the character of Younger Zulfikar. Overall, I am playing two characters in ‘Hiramandi’. What I can say about the show and the characters is that Bhansali Saheb has made a show which has not been seen in India till now. Zorawar is the number one debaucher and very arrogant. He only loves himself. Richa Chadha is in love with Zoravar. She works in Hiramandi. Zorawar promises them marriage and later marries them with someone else who is of his status. This is a very gray type and power powerful character. Zulfikar is the head of Nawab. Zulfikar’s character is being played by his father Shekhar Suman. Only he can tell more about it. Zulfikar was 25-30 years old, the character I am playing. Your series of selection and rejection was quite long. How did you get cast? Had to give many auditions, which was a very long process. After giving the audition, he was rejected the first time. Lucky for me, I got selected, but I am still surprised as to how I was signed on the show. Actually I believe in God. After 15 years, he has given me a powerful character to play. I am grateful. I hope that this time I will live up to the opportunity I have got. Because a lot of sensory and heartfelt work has been done in the show. It is not known when and what will happen in the life of an actor, hence whatever work is at hand, it is very important to do it wholeheartedly. The work that is done from the heart is definitely seen by the audience. If some special preparations have been made for Zorawar, then what is that? Zorawar is the Nawab. Had to prepare for Urdu for that. Have done a lot of work on language. As far as characters are concerned, everyone knows that the world that Bhansali sir creates for his characters is luxurious. It also becomes easier for an actor to work with such a talented director. Even if you just follow them, the matter gets resolved. His thought and way of working is outstanding. The learning that you will get from Sanjay Leela Bhansali cannot be got from anywhere else. How many look styles did one prefer? Too much. 12 to 15 different looks were tried. From my long hair to big ones were tried. Many costumes and different types of makeup were done. State hair, long hair, curly hair, many types of looks were tried, out of which the look with curly hair was finalized. Bhansali sahib’s obsession is so sharp that even if he has to blow a leaf, how should it blow? He is known for his costumes. Everything should look perfect to them. There are many heroines in it. Who do you have the most scenes with? My scenes are most with Richa Chadha and Manisha Koirala. Both of them are very talented artists. I consider myself very lucky to have worked with him as an actor, which was very good. One way or the other, we got to learn a lot from them. When you work with such an actor, your performance becomes better. What is my relationship with dad in the show? That will be known only after watching the show. I had a dream of working with him which was fulfilled by working in it. On the set, he is not my father, it is Shekhar ji, Purva Gram is Shekhar ji. I consider myself lucky in Purva Gram, that on one side there is Bhansali sir and on the other side, there is Shekhar ji. An actor, a veteran director and both are very expert in their fields. You will be seen in ‘Hiramandi’ after a long time. Why so? A lot of hard work has already been done. Everyone has to work hard. We all are also working hard in our fields. This is a by-product. But as far as opportunity is concerned, many formats and combinations are required to get work in this industry. I feel that despite the character of Tinka Singh in the Ashram web series being such a big hit, he could not get the kind of character he wanted to play. The bad work I have done between 2012 and 2018. I didn’t want to kill myself as an actor by doing that kind of work. I directed some songs. Sung some 15 songs. People also liked many of those songs. Of course, I am not that active on social media, so not many people know about it. But now after ‘Hiramandi’ people will not only start knowing me, but I hope that now big directors will give me a chance and production houses will pick up my calls. Apart from this, I am also playing the lead role as a hero in one or two films. Was busy shooting for this for 4 months. Was traveling outside in this connection. Just came back. Somewhere or the other I must have done some right work, only after that I got to do all these things today. Despite being a star kid, your struggle has been the same. What will you say? Being a star kid doesn’t mean paying the rent for your house, but when you come from a privileged family. There are also houses and cars, somewhere in life it starts feeling like a prison, because this house and car are not mine. This is my father’s hard earned money of 35 years. I respect this a lot in life. I want to have my own car and house. To be able to do things for my parents. Now that time has come. People don’t want to hear about your struggle until you become successful in this industry. What are the films that you are doing? There is a film ‘Love of Nineties’. The second film is Zehaan, which I am doing with Vijay Raaz. This is a thriller film. In this I am playing the role of a villain, whereas in Love of Nineties I am the hero and it is a romantic film. With these two films I feel that there will be many changes in my life.
