Aamir was not happy with his character in 3 Idiots: Due to this reason he did not want to be a part of the film, the director had to convince him

Actor Aamir Khan initially did not want to do the film 3 Idiots. The reason was that at the age of 44, he was uncomfortable playing the role of an 18-year-old boy. He was afraid that people would make fun of him. He had also suggested the film’s director Rajkumar Hirani to cast a young boy in this role. But Hirani did not want anyone other than Aamir to be a part of this film. As a result, Aamir also had to agree with Hirani. Aamir himself has said all these things in the recent episode of The Kapil Sharma Show, where he had arrived as a guest. Aamir was afraid that people would laugh. Aamir told – I did not want to do 3 Idiots. I was afraid that if I played the role of an 18-year-old boy at the age of 44, people would laugh. I had told Raju to cast only 3 young boys in the film. But they did not agree. I had not worked with Raju till then. Although I was a big fan of his. But when they came to me with this story, I thought how can I play the role of a young boy. After the director agreed, Aamir signed the film. Aamir further said, ‘I have a line in the film – don’t chase success, rather be worthy of it, success will follow you. This was Raju’s thinking behind the film. He told me- You have done such films which could never have been hits. Like stars on the ground and rent. All these films were flops at the time of announcement, but later became hits. So why did you do these films? You must not have done films thinking that they will be hits. This was your passion, that’s why you did these films. Only if you do, you will be successful. Then I thought that Raju is a great director. I don’t sign any film unless I am confident. But this was the first time that I signed this film without thinking. Aamir was seen in the role of Rancho in the 2009 film 3 Idiots. Artists like R. Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Kareena Kapoor and Bomar Irani were also seen with him in this film. Made for Rs 55 crore, this film had earned Rs 400.61 crore worldwide. Even today this film is counted among the best films in cinema history.
